How to de-seed a Pomegranate

Before we get to the health stuff… I think Pomegranates are one of the most exquisite pieces of God’s creation. They are SO beautiful! Left whole and sitting on your table as a natural decoration, or de-seeded with all those ruby colored ‘gems’ on display… they a feast all around. And SO Christmas-ie! I like to use them for decorating and eating at this time of year.

Filled with powerful anti-oxidents, and hight in vitamin C, the Pomegranate is absolutely a super-food! They are a great add-in to the Winter diet… but how on earth do I eat one ( you may be wondering)?!! Those little juicy seeds are difficult to remove and like to spray their bright juice on our very best outfits. I few years back I learned this simple and speedy way to de-seed your own Pomegranate and I’ve been eating them by the bowlful ever since!

1. Fill a bowl with cold water.

2. Slice your Pomegranates in half and pop them into the bowl.

3. Turning the cut side of the fruit down and using your fingers, begin to pull back the tough outer skin and roll your fingers firmly over the seeds. They will pop out! You don’t have to be too gentle, I just rip away !

4. When you are done the Pomegranate skin will look something like this:

5. And your Bowl will look something like this:

6. You can use your fingers to loosen the last pieces of white peel from the seeds, and then sieve it from the top of the water.

7. Lastly, pour your bright red seeds through a strainer and drain. You can display them in a pretty bowl with a spoon for serving, or just keep them in a jar in the fridge for snacking like I do.
