My kids got into this funny Ants on a Log kick recently.  I have never been a huge fan, but when my kids ask for veggies, I never say no!  As I was prepping yet another plate of this strange snack, I saw some cranberries in the cupboard and thought, ‘hey, new twist: how about fire ants!’ And thus, Fire Ants on a Log began.  I took it a step further and added some cinnamon and tada! a new twist on an old classic!  If you have little ones, be sure to let them in on the process, it makes eating their veggie more exciting when they get to “decorate” them!   DSC_1237 A few fun facts: Celery: 

  • low calorie; great way to help you lose weight
  • anti-inflammatory; helps reduce swelling around joints
  • apparently calms the nerves (I must test this on my active children!)
  • has floss-like properties so it’s great for your oral health

Nut butter: 

  • high in protein
  • lowers harmful cholesterol

  • anti-bacterial
  • anti-fungal
  • anti-oxidant

Dried berries:

  • high in antioxidants
  • good source of fiber
