Nothing beckons happy winter, and Christmas, memories like drinking chocolate. We’ve all had warm cocoa, its yummy and nice and all… but have you ever just melted a bar of chocolate in milk and then sipped on that?! I have. Let me tell you, it’s a whole other universe.
My dear dear friend Tonya Stanfield introduced me to this recipe, when I was 19 years old and sharing a very snowing Christmas with her family. We were all living in Budapest, Hungary that year… where it’s so cold that nobody is counting calories anymore. Tonya has been a close friend and mentor ever since and our friendship has taken me all over the world! She walked closely with me through my first years of learning to be a step-mom ( yes, I’m a step mom!), laughing both with and at me along the way. Tonya has modeled for me what it is to live out of the core of who we are… no people pleasing or faking it… just being the messy and beautiful people that we are.
Isn’t she lovely with her daughter?
But back to that Drinking Chocolate…
I recommend using the highest quality chocolate you can buy, and your choice of either raw milk, almond milk, or a blend of coconut and almond milk. If you choose to use dark chocolate ( 70%) or above, you may want to add in a swirl or two of maple syrup. Also, if you can find chocolate with Nougat in it… that’s just going to put you over the edge!
I found these more ‘natural’ marshmallows… still not clean by any means but at least free from corn syrup.
